Within this rhombus lies the state coat of arms, which includes a white five-pointed star, an eagle with outstretched wings holding a key and an anchor, and two garlands of wheat and coffee branches tied with a red ribbon inscribed with "Estado de Santa Catarina." The eagle signifies the state's productive forces, the key and anchor denote its strategic coastal position, and the garlands represent the main agricultural products. The Phrygian cap atop the star symbolizes the republican regime. This design was officially adopted on October 29, 1953.
