The Sámi flag, adopted in 1986, features a red and blue circle symbolizing the sun and moon, respectively, reflecting the Sámi people's heritage as "children of the sun." The colors red, blue, green, and yellow are inspired by traditional Sámi garments, known as gákti, representing fire, water, nature, and the sun. Designed by Astrid Båhl, the flag was officially recognized in Norway in 2003, with municipalities required to fly it on Sámi National Day, February 6.
