The Bedford Flag, the oldest known complete battle flag in the United States, features a crimson silk damask with a mailed arm emerging from clouds, grasping a sword, and encircled by the Latin motto "VINCE AUT MORIRE" . This emblem, adorned with silver and gold, was carried by Bedford Minuteman Nathaniel Page during the American Revolution's opening battle at Concord Bridge on April 19, 1775. The flag's design, dating back to the early 18th century, reflects its origins in the Massachusetts Bay militia's cavalry troop.
